3 Ways Content Marketing Can Help Boost Your Sales

Do you struggle to create content for your business? I can understand if you do, and believe me when I say, I still struggle with it as well.

If you’ve followed me for a while now, you’d argue with that last statement, mainly because I’m always putting out posts, especially on a platform like Facebook. But the truth is, that’s just one form of content, and it comes naturally to me. Other types of content, such as videos, audios, infographics, webinars, live workshops, seminars, etc, are very necessary, and some of them can be a bit of a headache to get done (that’s just me).

I’m going to share 3 strategic ways you can make your content marketing efforts worthwhile. Here they are:

#1. Focus on solving problems with your content

I’ve put out some posts on the importance of being more client/customer centric. This applies to everything you do in your business, and it’s not based on assumptions. You may think you know the problems your ideal clients/customers are facing, but it’ll shock you to find out that you don’t.

A problem focused approach helps up uncover the truth about the current situation a prospect is facing, which creates a trust based environment for them. This helps you create what is called “personalised marketing” – this is basically a form of marketing that thrives on data, and then tailors specific information to individuals, as opposed to generalised information.

You can find out problems by surveying your audience. Ask questions, and based on the responses you get, you can then create content to address that problem. There are times you may need to spend a bit of time studying the conversations within groups and forums you belong to, in order to pick out the areas people struggle with in your niche, and then give them the solutions via your content.

When you have established yourself as someone or a business who solves problems, your sales are bound to go up.

#2. Educate through your content

Whether you choose to create posts or make videos, the important thing is that they need to be valuable to your audience. If people learn from what you share, they will be more than willing to consume more content that comes from you.

There are businesses out there who feel they don’t really have anything to offer in terms of content, because they feel what they do is “boring.” I often let them know that it’s not based on what they feel they should talk about, but about what their audience wants them to talk about.

A good place to start is by looking into the testimonials you’ve had from clients, and building your topics from there. You could also use the survey method here to find out what your audience wants to read. In order to avoid making it boring for them, be sure to keep things simple. There are certain industry terms that might sound foreign to people, so try minimising their use (unless they are really necessary to include… of course, you’ll have to explain what they mean within your content).

How can this help with sales? It gives your audience the impression that you have knowledge of their situation, and you know how to help them, because of your education based approach.

#3. Always keep it fresh and original

Staying original is usually a tricky thing, mainly due to the fact that we believe what we are about to share was already shared by someone else, therefore, it can’t be original.

The truth is, everyone has an opinion about certain subjects, and you have to form yours based on how you perceive the idea behind the subject or how you’ve experienced it. This post is a good example of that. I’m writing based on my own perception and experience of content marketing.

It’s left to the reader (i.e. you) to build his/her lessons from it. For some it could be a refresher of what they already knew, for some it could be an entirely new subject. So, don’t downplay yourself because someone else wrote about what you intend to write about.

  • How did it make you feel?
  • What lessons did you learn from it?
  • What has been the experience of your clients/customers?

The more you keep your audience engaged with fresh content, the more they will be able to make an informed decision to come on board to buy from you.

Conclusion

If you look closely at what most of the influencers we follow do, you will notice that they are always creating some form of content or the other. They haven’t allowed their status to create complacency; they are still out there grinding and churning out valuable content.
