Facebook Marketing: Keeping Up With The Constant Changes

Facebook’s Monthly Punches

Every 3-6 months, Facebook comes up with one new feature or tweak on the platform, and this gets users hitting their heads against the wall. Main reason is because as human beings, when we settle for something, it’s always hard to accept change.

I struggle with this a lot, but as a business person, I know it is something I MUST embrace, otherwise I’ll find myself flat on my face on an online stampede, while forward thinkers are stepping on me to grab every bit of opportunity that comes with change.

With that said, one needs to understand the concept of change in itself, and why Facebook does what they do. Even though Facebook knows that most users will revolt to any changes made on the platform, they have come to terms with the fact that they are more than just a social network… it’s a business, and business needs to make money (Period!).

Why Does Facebook Make These Changes?

If you run a business on Facebook, you must realize that these changes occur based on activities that are carried out on the Facebook platform. The main focus for most users on Facebook is the newsfeed, and that section of the platform has been bombarded with the good, the bad and the ugly type contents.

Facebook wants users to have a good experience on the platform, so they work on their algorithm to ensure users see content that is relevant to them (i.e. eliminating unwanted feeds such as memes and spammy links). Mashable did a post on this, explaining some key points why Facebook makes changes.

How You Should Respond To Facebook’s Changes

As a business person operating on Facebook (i.e. using Facebook to promote your brand), you need to look at Facebook changes as stepping stones for your marketing efforts. When you are prone to settling with a system that does not change, you will be sucked into the noise made by tire-kicker marketers out there who’s main intentions are to push sell.

Facebook is weary of these sorts of marketers, and they are working hard to restrict their activities, in order to create space for true business people who offer value. Which category would you like to go belong to? The tire-kickers or the true business owners? Go figure!

What’s Next In Line With Facebook?

Facebook will continue to change, and that may sound like a ‘broken record’, but that just what it is. Many believe Facebook Marketing is no more effective, but I would have you know that Facebook is still an effective Social Media platform for businesses (Especially for advertising).

One good way to look at Facebook is basically as an engagement driven social media marketing platform. If your content (status update, video, event, ad, etc) is more value driven for the end user than you trying to make a quick buck, then you are sure to stand out from the rest of the businesses within your niche.
