Beginners Guide To Effective Facebook Ads

How do you create effective Facebook Ads?

When it comes to Facebook Ads, there’s no definitive method that one could claim to be – “the best or one and only” – because Facebook is a platform that changes things a lot.

What worked today may not work again tomorrow; it keeps you on your toes. You have to be willing to test things out, in order to know what’s working for that time period.

The mistake most business owners make with Facebook Ads is become complacent when they are getting good results, and ignore the changes occurring within the platform. As a publicly trading business, Facebook needs to make money, which is why they are putting in a lot of effort to get businesses on the platform to advertise.

I made a short video (duration: 9:41) breaking down some key things business owners need to know when it comes to Facebook Ads (mainly for beginners, but it can still resonate with seasoned Facebook Advertisers). Click play to watch:

Video summary:

Before you get involved with Facebook Ads

This aspect deals with the importance of having a plan before getting started with Facebook Ads. If you’re already running Facebook Ads, then this aspect may not apply to you.

  • Know who you’re looking to reach
  • Find out where they hangout and listen in on the conversation
  • Create your ideal prospect. What are their needs, wants, likes, etc?
  • Set aside a “testing budget” and keep track of your results

Boosted posts vs Ads manager

I always recommend the use of the Ads manager section, because…

  • It gives you more options
  • You can structure your ads in a more customised format
  • You can narrow down on your interests targeting
  • You can use the *Power Editor* tool as well to this purpose

Facebook Ads objective (options)

There are a lot of options to choose from when setting up your Facebook Ads campaign, however, I would recommend you stick with these two…

  • Website clicks: send people to your website and pay per click
  • Conversion ads (or website conversions): track your leads and sales using Facebook Ads pixel

Facebook Ads content structure

Your content will determine if your Ads will work or not. You need to create copy that is…

  • Appealing to the person who sees it
  • Not too salesy… toned down a little bit
  • Congruent with Facebook… maintaining the social context*
  • Either in a “long copy” format or “short copy” format
  • Good image, with a bit of text on it, or no text at all

Your funnels

Where you send people to when they click on your Facebook Ads is very important. This will help you achieve the conversions you desire, so be sure your funnels are properly structured and functional. You could use a…

  • Squeeze page to get opt-ins
  • Landing page with long form copy, short form copy or a VSL (video sales letter)
  • Sales page with info on your products/services

Your call to action

What actions do you want people to take on your squeeze or landing page? Make your call to action…

  • Effective, and also
  • Specific to the goal of your campaign

    1. It sure can Adrian, once you know what you’re doing. The reason businesses lose money on Facebook Ads is because they are not willing to change their approach. It’s all about testing and tweaking when it comes to advertising on Facebook. Thanks for your comment!
